At Tuesday’s hours-long Surfside Beach special meeting, the council learned that it can bring the department up to safe standards, but at the price of raising the tax millage rate for residents and businesses.
Surfside Beach leaders are looking toward a temporary plan to keep the town's fire department instead of selling it to Horry County.
“I was doing it for you guys,” he said, speaking to the public in attendance. “I’m not doing a witch hunt. I’m not doing a fishing expedition.”
