Local athletes earn All-Conference, All-District, All-State
Local athletes put in work this spring on the fields and the track, with many earning postseason honors for their respective conferences and districts, as well as in the state.

The Cassville baseball team earned a trio of All-Big 8 West nods, with senior Zach Acheson named Second Team infield, sophomore Isaac Hadlow named Second Team infield and junior Tim Hudson named Honorable Mention outfield.
Wildcats fall to Mt. Vernon
The Cassville baseball team (8-17) fell to Mt. Vernon on Friday, 3-1. The Wildcats managed 5 hits, but struggled to find home plate. Logan White led with 2 hits, and Corey Thomas went five innings on the mound, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, striking out 3. The Wildcats also fell to Nevada on Friday, 16-3. Cassville returns to action today (Wednesday) at Spokane at 4:30 p.m., the last regular-season contest of the year. On Monday, the Wildcats face Reeds Spring in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at 4:30 p.m. in Aurora.
Tigers 2-1 in close games last week
The Exeter baseball team (11-9) went 2-1 last week, with all games decided by a single run. On Wednesday, the Tigers topped Miller, 6-5, allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh but holding on for the win. Zach Lee led with 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Aaron Beck added 2 RBI. Hank Woods pitched a full game, striking out 8. On Thursday, Exeter fell to Pierce City 3-2, with both teams scoring a pair in

Lady Bulldogs top Pierce City, 50-44
A hot start for the Wheaton girls basketball team produced a 50-44 overtime win over Pierce City on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-9) popped a trio of three-pointers, two from Allison Williams and one from Lori McNeill, for a 9-0 lead, then they extended the gap to 16-3 at the end of the first quarter.
