Steve Harmon
Today s installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the 800 block of South Main Street on the west side.
About 1910, Glen D. Wood built a thin elongated building at 829 S. Main and opened the Auto Top Factory, a collision repair shop. In 1922, Oscar D. Nelson purchased the business and moved it next door at 825 S. Main and renamed it Hutchinson Auto Top Factory.
Oscar and Harold Nelson eventually built a new building at 220-222 W. 2nd and moved their body shop there.
Meanwhile at 825 S. Main, in the 1940s it was the Ford Beer Distributing Co. In the 1960 s it was the Hutchinson Rug Cleaning Co. It was vacant in the 1970s. In the 1980s, it was the Hutchinson Tent & Awning Warehouse.  In the 1990s it was the Treasure Island Consignment Auction, owned by Alfonso Cauley. ....
