When news broke that Covid-19 had been detected in Malawi, older people were gripped by fear. The fear was justified as the public health messages emphasised that people aged above 60 and those with underlying health challenges such as diabetes and hypertension were at higher risk of being hospitalised and dying from the coronavirus disease.
