IIT Guwahati needs to nurture other institutes in NE, says Droupadi Murmu

Guwahati, Oct. 13 (PTI): President Droupadi Murmu, on Thursday stressed the need to promote a knowledge-based society and the importance of technological solutions to the problems of the country, while highlighting the role of institutes of higher education in this regard. She was speaking after virtually inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for various central and state projects from the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. These include the inauguration of supercomputer Param Kamrupa’, under the National Supercomputing Mission, and a laboratory for the design and development of high-power microwave components at IIT-Guwahati. Murmu also virtually inaugurated the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital and laid the foundation stones for the Zonal Institutes of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Dibrugarh in Assam and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh at the same programme. Eid celebrated with fervour in India as people cast aside COVID fears

New Delhi, July 10 (PTI): People came out of homes in large numbers, offered namaz at mosques, greeted each other with hugs and exchanged food and gifts across the length and breadth of India to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on Sunday, undeterred by the recent surge in coronavirus cases. President Ram Nath Kovind greeted people through a tweet in Urdu, asking them to dedicate themselves to the service of humanity. “The festival of Eid-ul-Adha teaches sacrifice and service to humanity. On this auspicious occasion, let us dedicate ourselves to the service of humanity and pledge to work for the prosperity and comprehensive development of the country,” the President tweeted.
