Incumbent mayor's wife gets Legazpi City top post

(Photo by Emmanuel Solis) LEGAZPI CITY - The Legazpi City Board of Canvassers (LCBOC) proclaimed the newly elected mayor and re-elected vice mayor here on Tuesday. Geraldine Rosal, wife of incumbent mayor Noel Rosal, and current Vice Mayor Bobby Cristobal, were proclaimed winners in Monday's local elections by LCBOC chairman Lawyer Fatima Gados Pani-Agua and vice chairman Lawyer Brian Baleda at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation (ICR) inside the City Hall compound. Rosal garnered 57,687 total cast votes against her rival, Lawyer Alfredo Garbin, who got 57,137 votes -- a slim lead of 550 votes. On the other hand, Vice Mayor Bobby Cristobal garnered 56,380 against his rival, businessman Alan Ranola, who got 50,465 with a lead of 5,915 votes. Rosal, in an earlier interview, thanked the people of Legazpi City for the trust that will allow her to serve and implement programs and projects that will benefit the community. "I will also focus on the livelihood programs of the Legazpi City Women's Federation (LCWF) in order for them to uplift their daily living condition," she said. She said she will also prioritize serving the senior citizens to make sure they will receive all the benefits due them, particularly their pensions. Rosal is a former mayor of this city and served from 2010-2013 after her husband finished his three terms as local chief executive. Meanwhile, newly elected Governor Noel Rosal is expected to be proclaimed by the Albay Provincial Board of Canvassers anytime Tuesday afternoon. In a radio interview, he thanked the residents of Albay for the support and trust that they gave him. "All Albayanos expressed that we need to give more concerns, more services, and programs that must be implemented. This is a manifestation, the people have spoken they want more services," Rosal said. He assured the public that his experience as mayor of Legazpi will serve as his guide in working for the benefit of all. (PNA) }
