Has been reporting there since that massacre spoke to some of the children and i was so struck with what this one fifth grader told him. listen. i m really nervous. i m so scared and shocked after what happened at my old school. and i m still scared and nervous. i can still hear the gunshots. it was very terrifying and traumatizing for me. he can still hear the gunshots because he was down the hall when it happened. i wonder what you heard from the children. absolutely, poppy. you have children all across in uvalde that were in the classrooms adjacent to. i ran into a third grader there, unfortunately still has trouble speaking. this is the kind of trauma that these kids are experiencing. i hope that everybody in the united states understands the full effect of what happened in uvalde and the full effect of how government has failed them in the state of texas. ....

Really stressful for kids whether you are going into a new grade or new school. but on top of that now, my third grader, the majority of his education has been wearing a mask all the time. and now we re only going to see it during times where the community levels of covid are really high. so he will be in an environment that feels kind of alien and very difficult. and so i think that this is a time where parents and teachers need to be even more supportive than normal and be willing to talk about that this will be a tough and not normal school year. and i m so impressed by some of these kids. my kids, you know, they have masks in their back pack. if they are in a situation where they want to wear them, they will temperatubut i m letting te it out for themselves. when you talk about learning loss, the mental health strain. i m pretty impressed that kids are heading back to school in as good a shape as they are. ....
