A Grant County man imprisoned since 2006 after being convicted of 10 counts of child sex abuse will not be released early after reaching a plea deal on five counts that had been set for retrial because the convictions were based on non-unanimous jury verdicts.
The agreement was hammered out by prosecuting and defense attorneys in a settlement conference on Friday, May 17, in Grant County Circuit Court.
In a court hearing Friday afternoon, Robert D. Joiner, 71, of Long Creek, was given sentences ranging from 38 to 66 months, with credit for time served, for two counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sex abuse and one count of attempted unlawful sexual penetration.
