Harrup Park to fight for Olympic events in Mackay

“We want to include the regions as well. So, of course, with the football, we’ve been looking at having the soccer matches, of course, up around the different regions,” she said.
“And, of course, all of the state will share in an Olympic glory.
“So, we want to make sure that this is inclusive of Queensland and that we all have a part of history here.”
Harrup Park Country Club has released designs for the Great Barrier Reef Arena to Mackay Regional Council to gain approval for the project.
Harrup Park chairman Terry Doolan said the State Government was yet to decide the regional venues for the world’s biggest sporting event and the club would do everything possible to ensure the Great Barrier Reef Arena was a frontrunner. ....

Early construction works on a $24 million Mackay arena upgrade are set to start next month, Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says.
Mrs Gilbert said local contractors would be the first choice for about 90 jobs on offer in the building of Harrup Park s Great Barrier Reef Arena.
Harrup Park Country Club chief executive Matt Cielens said the arena upgrade was currently in the design development phase and the club was yet to formally appoint a contractor.
We are hopeful that full construction would commence mid-year 2021 however there may be some early works associated with preparing the site that could commence earlier, Mr Cielens said. ....
