26-M Filipino learners suffer most from climate change

OVER 26 million enrolled students in the Philippines are confronted with the multifaceted impacts of climate change, including the possibility of El Niño, bringing intolerable heat, more powerful typhoons and limited access to water for basic needs. This happens to about half of the 75 million children around the world, whose education is interrupted every year by natural disasters such as flood and drought.

Cavite public high school cited for using solar energy

DEPED / MANILA BULLETIN
Amid challenges that continue to confront the Philippine education system, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said that there are various efforts on the local level that should be recognized and can be replicated in other schools nationwide.
San Antonio commended the Imus National High School (INHS) in Imus City for switching to solar energy for education and environmental sustainability.
To introduce sustainable energy for the future of students, the INHS formally launched its solar panels through the Legacy Projects of the City Government of Imus and the Green School Program (GSP).
“I promised that when the results are in and if we discover and we have the evidence that when we create green schools, learners will learn better, we will use resources more efficiently there is no reason not to announce this to other agencies and other units of DepEd,” San Antonio said.
