TEXARKANA, Texas -- The local Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 278, will hold their fifth annual Chuck Wagons for Veterans fundraiser, with opening ceremonies starting at 11:15 a.m. March 11 at the Four States Fairgrounds.
Opting to commit the remaining funding set aside for the group in late 2021, Hamilton County commissioners decided Wednesday to distribute $200,000 of federal pandemic relief funds to a local youth mentorship organization called the Lighthouse Collective.
The funding will go to a new HVAC system and upgrades to security.
Hamilton County Commission Chairman Chip Baker was on to something earlier this month when he suggested the commission needed a more deliberative process for awarding funds to nonprofit organizations, and that became clear with the discussion at Wednesday's commission meeting on funds proposed for the nonprofit Lighthouse Collective.
Hamilton County commissioners will decide next week whether to provide an additional $100,000 in federal pandemic relief money for a youth mentorship program called the Lighthouse Collective, which would be the second of three yearly installments totaling $300,000.
