It’s difficult to read Joëlle Gergis’s new essay in The Monthly and not share in the leading climate scientist’s despair. With the world now in the era of “global boiling” and Australia expecting a “grotesque showcase” over the coming summer, it’s hard to fathom that we are still expanding and subsidising fossil fuels, the things that are “definitively … cooking the planet”, while ignoring the solutions we have at hand.
