Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said the man was 48-year-old Robert E. White of Kiln, Mississippi. Rhodes said White was the only person in the vehicle. Mattoon City Police reported the crossing was lighted and gated. The eastbound SUV went around the downed crossing arm and into the path of the northbound Amtrak train.
