Accused Viraj Patel was initally arrested in April for the rape of a woman and posing as an official of Gujarat Chief Minister's Office in Vadodara.
The police said Viraj Patel had been hiding in the northeastern states of Tripura, Assam and Mizoram “looking for an escape out of India”.
The incident happened when Viraj Patel, who was lodged in Vadodara Central Jail and was produced before the sessions court on Novermber 10 in connection with a case of alleged rape of a Mumbai-based woman, dodged the attention of the police party escorting him and escaped from the court complex.
The Gujarat police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as an official from the chief minister's office (CMO) and asked Jamnagar superintendent of police to release an accused arrested in a cybercrime case, an official said on Sunday.
On learning about the real identity of the accused, the woman accompanying him approached the police to file a complaint against him, stating that he had allegedly repeatedly raped her from April 8 onwards.
