Energy Secretary lauds employees for their round-the-clock services
The Energy Department has attached due priority to supplying power to oxygen plants, which have become the lifeline for the COVID-19 patients.
Nodal officers, not less than the rank of an executive engineer, have been posted in-charge of each one of the 22 oxygen plants (three of them are major units located in Visakhapatnam city and Srikakulam district) in the purview of the three Discoms with a demand of 2,49,196 KVA.
“By doing so, continuous power supply is ensured,” Energy Secretary N. Srikant said in a review meeting on Friday.

‘Despite challenges, discoms occupy top position in country’
Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director H. Haranatha Rao has said that the internal efficiency of the company improved substantially. He was speaking at the first-ever virtual meeting conducted here on Wednesday, in reply to the queries and objections raised at the public hearing by Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), held recently at Visakhapatnam by Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy.
In his address, Mr. Rao said the fact that the objections raised had not pointed to any power interruption or consumer services was indication to an increase in the company’s internal efficiency. He appreciated the officials who render service tirelessly with high efficiency and integrity, in spite of the ‘old network’.

APERC public hearing on power tariff begins
Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) Chairman C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy said that due to the decisions taken in the financial year 2019-20, the State government has saved ₹200 crore on power purchase.
He was delivering the inaugural address for the three-day public hearing on Aggregate Revenue Requirement and tariff filing for Financial Year 2021-22 at the APEPDCL office here on Monday.
Due to the the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the hearing was held online for all the three Discoms APEPDCL, APCPDCL and APSPDCL.
He said that the APERC will take a balanced decision keeping in view the financial position of the Discoms and interests of consumers.

‘Agriculture tops government’s priority list’
The State government is committed to creating a sustainable and financially robust power sector in the State and provide round-the-clock access to affordable and quality power to all sectors, Energy Minister B. Srinivasa Reddy has said.
Addressing the employees after releasing the New Year calendar and diary of the AP power utilities here on Thursday, Mr. Srinivasa Reddy said, as part of the efforts to improve the finances of the Discoms, the government released ₹17,904 crore in 2019-20 towards clearing their subsidy arrears.
Out of subsidy arrears of ₹13,391 crore pending as on March 31, 2019, the government released ₹8,655 crore in 2019-20 and ₹9,249 crore towards the subsidy announced in 2019-20 and other charges. The government also released ₹20,384 crore to the Discoms for clearing the pending power generator bills pending as on March 31, 2019. The total bills cleared by the Discoms stood at ₹34,384 crore in 2019-20.
