SEVERAL areas of mid Essex still have higher infection rates of Covid, despite a drop in cases. Witham Town has the highest infection rate at 160.2 per 100,000 people and 18 cases in the last seven days.  The latest figures are for the seven days leading up to February 17.  The news comes the day after Boris Johnson outlined the roadmap out of the national lockdown, with June 21 as the proposed date for all restrictions to be eased completely.  Bocking Churchstreet & Blackwater has the next highest rate at 129.3 and 12 cases in the last week.  Closely followed by Braintree ...

Essex and the Braintree district were some of the worst hit areas, with the district recording a staggering 1,570 cases and an infection rate of 1,028 per 100,000 people in the seven days leading up to December 30. MORE than 500 cases of coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Braintree district in the past seven days. The infection rate has climbed again in the past 48 hours to 351.9 cases per 100,000 people - up from 268.0 on Monday. Braintree now has the 30th highest infection rate in the country and is higher than the Essex average of 305.3. The district has been placed into Tier 3 of the Government's Covid restrictions, meaning pubs and restaurants can only serve takeaways.
