Jammu: A daily wager’s rise from being a Class IV government employee to retiring as special secretary to a state government is undoubtedly inspirational, but the conclusion of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganai’s dream run has certainly not been pleasant.
The crime branch of J&K Police on Wednesday arrested him for forging and manipulating his date of birth in his service records. The accused, a resident of Hanjura in Budgam district, was special secretary (legal), J&K home department, and was superannuated by the government on March 3, 2021, with retrospective effect from March 31, 2019 after the fraud came to light.
“A written communication was made with the crime branch by the J&K government, including a written complaint lodged by one Ghulam Mohd Bhat Hanjura Chadoora, alleging that Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganai, who was till March 5, 2021 posted as special secretary (legal), had used his official position to grab money and enjoy power as a senior legal officer. JAMMU, Mar 10: The Crime Branch Jammu today arrested a retrospectively superannuated officer of Special Secretary rank, who had forged his own date of birth.
The accused, namely Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganai, resident of Hanjura, Tehsil Chadoora, District-Budgam, was Special Secretary (Legal) Home Department and had been superannuated by the Government on March 3, 2021 with retrospective effect from March 31, 2019.
It has prima facie been established that Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganai forged and manipulated his own date of birth in his service/official records in connivance with others in order to take illegal monetary gains for himself and enjoy powers as Senior Legal Officer of the Union Territory. ....

Crime Branch Jammu today arrested Special Secretary (Legal) Home Department, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganai S/o Abdul Salam Ganai R/O Hanjura, Tehsil Chadoora, District-Budgam who has been retrospectively superannuated by the Govt. as on 31st March 2019.
A press release of Crime Branch said, ‘It has prima facie been established that Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Ganai forged and manipulated his date of birth in his service/official records in connivance with others in order to take illegal monetary gains for himself and enjoy the position as Senior Legal Officer of the Union Territory’.
CB today produced Ganai in the Court that granted his Police remand for investigation of the case. ....
