Subscriber only AFTER two knee operations in four months, Laidley batting ace Gerard Ged Sippel concedes his cricketing future is in limbo. He is unlikely to return in the Cricket Ipswich competition after Christmas following the latest operation on his left knee. At 43, Sippel knows his outstanding cricket career has a limited time span. However, he wants to give himself every chance of playing next season with some added incentive. I never say never, Sippel said about the prospect of batting again in the top order for Laidley s first division side. My motivation these days is playing with my oldest son Tom (who turns 17 in April).

Subscriber only HAVING recently tested himself against higher level bowling, Centrals captain Lachlan Vellacott has his fingers crossed for another absorbing contest on Saturday. The skipper and his consistent performing team are anxious to face Laidley in the Harding-Madsen Shield Ipswich final at Walker Oval. The Centrals Kookaburras have been denied some big match shots at the Blue Dogs. After last year s four-day Ipswich competition grand final was cut short by COVID, Centrals also had to settle for being runners-up after last weekend s Baxter Big Bash T20 decider was washed out. With rainy weather still around, Vellacott was hoping for dry conditions on Saturday to allow another challenging but exciting contest before the Christmas break.

CRICKET: It was meant to be a decider for the ages, but Western Districts missed the memo.
The Toowoomba side claimed its fourth Harding-Madsen Shield in five years after one of the finest bowling displays witnessed in 2020 to demolish Laidley by seven wickets at Heritage Oval.
Sending the visitors in, Wests were in full control from the outset, with all five bowlers used playing their role in dismissing Laidley for 60 runs.
They were never tested as they rolled along to one of their biggest wins of the season, maintaining their stranglehold on the inter-district competition and completing a perfect season of no losses.
