County: Wayland woman, 42, among COVID-19 deaths

BATH – A 42-year-old community member from the Village of Wayland was among four COVID-19 related deaths reported by the Steuben County Public Health Department Monday.
The other three were female residents of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center, ages 81, 88, and 90. The Wayland resident died while hospitalized, said the Health Department. 
“The toll of COVID-19 does not discriminate by demographics, such as age,” said Public Health Director Darlene Smith. “Over the holiday weekend, our community has lost seniors and a woman in the prime of her life. The sorrow we feel for their family and friends cannot be adequately expressed. Please honor their legacy by following public health protocols.”  ....

Steuben County hits new 3-day high for COVID-19 cases
Cities of Hornell, Corning have highest numbers of new cases

BATH Steuben County has eclipsed 500 active COVID-19 cases with 155 residents testing positive for COVID-19 since Saturday, the Steuben County Public Health Department said Monday night. 
This brings the total to 2,887 confirmed cases, 530 of which are currently active. The 155 new cases represent the county s highest three-day total since the pandemic began. 
“We simply cannot sustain this type of increase in our county,  said Public Health Director Darlene Smith.  Please reconsider your holiday plans, personal choices, destinations and who you gather with.” ....

5 More Steuben County Nursing Home residents Die of COVID-19

Five more nursing home residents in Steuben County have died from COVID-19.
The Health Department says all five were residents of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center, and were in their 70s or 80s.
The health department also reported an additional 57 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases to more than 500.
The health department is offering free rapid COVID tests today at the Station Church in Hornell.
Testing is open to all county residents but you must pre-register.
