Marshall Helmberger ELY— Timberwolves senior Will Davies struck out eight, while scattering seven hits as Ely blew out a depleted Mesabi East squad 17-11 here on Tuesday afternoon. Marshall Helmberger CHISHOLM— Ely junior Harry Simons pitched a solid game here on Monday, but five Timberwolves’ errors helped the Bluestreaks to a 6-0 win. “We struggled at the plate and in the field,” said Ely Head Coach Frank Ivancich. “Harry pitched well enough to deserve a better fate in this game.” Indeed, Simons allowed just one earned run on six hits, while striking out seven Chisholm batters. Ely had plenty of opportunities to get on the scoreboard as it stranded ten runners. “We just couldn’t seem to produce a big hit to get them on board,” said Ivancich.

David Colburn ELY- Ely’s Joey Bianco hit the go-ahead bucket here with 1:33 remaining and a desperation North Woods three at the buzzer failed to connect as the Timberwolves came from 13 points down to shock the Grizzlies, 63-60, last Friday. The Timberwolves took advantage of horrendous second-half shooting by North Woods to steadily cut into a 42-30 halftime deficit. The Grizzlies were an icy cold six-of-32 shooting, or 19 percent, after the break, and hit just one-of-14 from beyond the arc. Emmett Faltesek kicked off the Ely surge with a trey, and the Timberwolves collected additional th...
