Amid protests against the Centre s three contentious farm laws, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday vowed to quit politics if he doesn’t manage to secure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the farmers.

CHANDIGARH: A year after the NDA comprising the BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party came into power in Haryana, it suffered a setback in the civic body elections, as it lost mayoral/presidential positions in five of the seven municipal bodies that went to polls, the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
Coming as it did in the backdrop of the month-long agitation by farmers, analysts sought to read in the outcome the disquiet of the tillers, who constitute a large chunk of the voters. While Nikhil Madaan of the Congress wrested the Sonipat municipal corporation mayor post, Shakti Rani Sharma of the Haryana Jan Chetna Party is the new mayor of Ambala municipal corporation. ....

Cong wants special session, but yet to get time from guv to meet: Hooda


Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said the Congress wanted a special session of the state assembly so a no-confidence motion could be brought against the M L Khattar government, but despite multiple attempts to meet the governor over the issue they were yet to get time from him.
Hooda, who is the leader of the opposition, said two of the seven Independent MLAs have already withdrawn support to the BJP-JJP government, while many JJP MLAs have openly come out in support of farmers protesting against the Centre s new farm laws.
We earlier wrote to the governor urging him to summon a special session, stating that the Congress wants to bring a no-confidence motion because this government has lost the trust of the people as well as some MLAs. ....

NEW DELHI: While the year 2019 would be remembered for the victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, 2020 would be recalled as the year when the BJP made handsome gains in the polls held for local bodies across the country. Moreover, while the BJP also won the Bihar assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) decisively won the Delhi state polls for the second consecutive term.
The year would also be remembered for the elections which were held during COVID-19 times. The Delhi assembly elections were held in February, when the pandemic had not yet become a threat. By the time the Bihar polls were held in October-November, the coronavirus disease had started receding after reaching its crescendo. ....
