welcome back to velshi & ruhle. pope francis is calling for a summit at the vatican to meet with archbishops from around the world to focus specifically on preventing sex abuse by clergy and protecting children. the meeting is believed to be the first of its kind but it s not happening until late february. top u.s. church leadership are heading to the vatican tomorrow to meet with pope francis, including the archbishop of washington, d.c., cardinal donald wuerl. he form early was the archbishop of pittsburgh and is planning to discuss his possible resignation with francis in the face of revelations that he mismanaged past clerical abuse. that makes it sound like it was just a bad habit, and we both know it s not. joining me now mitchell garabedian, an attorney representing 50 victims in the
talk amongst themselves to try to determine how can we refocus the how can we polish the image of the catholic church because we re taking an awful hit here. right now they re in panic mode. how many of these leaders probably participated in the cover-up over the past decades if they weren t actual abusers? i mean this is very insincere. it lacks credibility, and it s a slap in the face to children to have such a meeting not only in six months but to have it at all. why hasn t the catholic church, which has a long history of covering up the criminality of sexual abuse and allow ing sexual abuse have a plan in place, not talk, not words, not speeches, but a plan in place right now to allow an investigation to go forward so that prevention can have a meaningful prevention can be
