RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday night shared the pain of tribals, who he said are discriminated against in the country, during the online India Conference of Harvard University. He also differentiated the religion the tribals follow from Hinduism and said a separate code in the upcoming Census is the need of the hour. Soren became the first tribal leader from the country to participate in the conference which is into its 18th edition this year.
Soren was interacting with a senior fellow from Harvard Kennedy School, Dr Suraj Yengde, who threw a volley of questions related to tribal identity, Centre-state relations and the model of development among other issues. ....

RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday night participated in an online discussion with Harvard Kennedy School’s senior fellow Suraj Yengde at the 18th edition of the India Conference organised by students of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business school. During the close-to-one-hour discussion, Soren answered questions about tribal identity and Centre-state relations.
Soren said the tribals are being oppressed even after 72 years of Independence. “They are used as napkins. If the tribals are educated, who will be there to serve as drivers and cooks of the corporate?” he lamented. Soren also said the country is being radicalised and just for being a tribal, he and his party has suffered at the hands of the right-wing BJP and its allies. ....

Haji's son takes oath as min in Hemant cabinet | Ranchi News


Ranchi: Governor Droupadi Murmu on Friday administered the oath of office and secrecy to Hafiz Ul Hasan, the eldest son of deceased JMM minister Haji Hussain Ansari at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan. Hasan is the 11th minister in chief minister Hemant Soren’s cabinet. He will hold the portfolios of tourism, arts and culture, youth affairs and sports and minorities affairs.
Since Hasan is not a member of the assembly, he must win from a seat within six months from taking oath to retain the post. He is likely to fight the bypoll, expected in April along with West Bengal assembly election, from the Madhupur constituency, which fell vacant following the death of his father. Haji, who held the charge of minority affairs, died in October last year from post-recovery complications after getting infected by Covid-19. The decision to induct Hasan in the cabinet was taken in a sudden turn of events taken on Thursday night. ....

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday said that education sector suffered the most during the Covid-induced lockdown and the fact that pupils still managed to continue with their studies despite facing a challenging situation speaks volumes about their discipline.
Speaking as a chief guest at the 59th convocation ceremony of Xavier Institute of Social Services (XISS) here via video conferencing, Soren congratulated the 304 graduating students and urged them learn new skills “as the next phase of their life is going to be tough”. “Since the path ahead will not be always smooth, you should rely on some basic qualities to face life’s adversities,” he added. ....
