Hemant, 4 ex-CMs to campaign for rival parties in poll-bound Bengal | Ranchi News

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren and four former CMs will canvass for BJP and Trinamool Congress in the poll-bound West Bengal in the coming weeks.
Union tribal affairs minister and ex-CM Arjun Munda on Friday began his three-day electioneering trip in West Bengal, campaigning for Gouri Singh Sardar, BJP’s candidate in the Manbazar (ST) assembly constituency under Purulia district. He is expected to tour a few more ST assembly seats in the region that will go to the hustings on March 27.
While Munda is already on the campaign trail, former CM Raghubar Das is expected to begin canvassing on Monday. Das, the only CM in Jharkhand to complete five years in office, was appointed BJP’s national vice-president last year. It has not been decided where Das will campaign in the first phase.

Hemant demands probe into assault on Mamata | Ranchi News

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday sought a high-level probe into the alleged attack on his West Bengal counterpart, Mamata Banerjee, in Nandigram on Wednesday even as her detractors have dubbed the incident as “stage-managed” to gain sympathy ahead of the first phase of assembly elections in the neighbouring state on March 27.
Expressing concern over the attack, Soren tweeted, “Concerned & disturbed to know about the foot injury & hospitalisation of @MamataOfficial Didi during her election campaign in Nandigram. A high-level investigation should be conducted to identify those behind this incident & punished. I wish her a speedy and healthy recovery.”
Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party president Arvind Kejriwal had also joined the chorus in condemning the attack on Banerjee. In a tweet, Kejriwal wrote, “I strongly condemn the attack on Mamata Didi. Those responsible should be immediately arrested and punished. I pray for her speedy recovery.”

More paddy procurement centres to come up on need basis: CM | Ranchi News

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday assured the lawmakers on the floor of the House during the ongoing budget session that the government will set up more paddy procurement centres across the state.
Responding to a starred question asked by JMM’s Chaibasa legislator Dipak Birua on whether there are ample paddy procurement centres across the blocks, Soren said, “Our government is sensitive towards the farmers. I will direct all deputy commissioners to set up such centres over and above the existing ones on a need basis.”
Earlier in the day, BJP disrupted the Question Hour and Zero Hour by descending into the well to press for a debate on illegal stone quarrying and sand mining across Jharkhand. The opposition members began their protests after Speaker Rabindranath Mahto overruled an adjournment motion moved by BJP's Jamua MLA Kedra Hazar over the issue.

Dumka: JMM Borio MLA Lobin Hembrom on Wednesday said he would launch a movement against illegal mining in Sahibganj district if the state government failed to take steps to control the menace. He even accused party colleague and JMM central committee member Sanjay Mishra of being involved in the illegal activities.

Notably, Lobin had led a tribal agitation against rampant violation of mining norms a month ago. But on Wednesday, he claimed that the state government has not taken any positive step regarding the issue since then.

Suffered at BJP's hands for being tribal: Hemant at Harvard meet | Ranchi News

Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren
RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday night participated in an online discussion with Harvard Kennedy School’s senior fellow Suraj Yengde at the 18th edition of the India Conference organised by students of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business school. During the close-to-one-hour discussion, Soren answered questions about tribal identity and Centre-state relations.
Soren said the tribals are being oppressed even after 72 years of Independence. “They are used as napkins. If the tribals are educated, who will be there to serve as drivers and cooks of the corporate?” he lamented. Soren also said the country is being radicalised and just for being a tribal, he and his party has suffered at the hands of the right-wing BJP and its allies.
