Two endangered Florida panthers have been struck and killed by vehicles, officials said.
The drought situation continues to worsen across Southwest Florida after an abnormally dry rainy season and a long stretch of dry weather for most of October through the first part of November.
Hendry County and Glade County both recently experienced panther fatalities caused by speeding vehicles, which represent the greatest threat to the FL panther population.
Ten panthers have now been killed by cars in the state this year — and 64 have been killed since 2021, according to statistics kept by the state.
Another Florida panther died from a vehicle collision, but this was the first time a death was discovered on back-to-back days.
