Emergency Sub Plan: Hibernation - Math (Gr 1)
Main: Say: We add numbers so that we can figure out how many of something we have. If we did not add numbers, we would end up counting a lot. For example, instead of adding 2 pieces of candy to 4 pieces of candy and getting 6, you would have to count every piece of candy. (Write this problem on the board- 2 + 4 =6. You can use your fingers to show them adding.) When figuring out an addition problem, it is a good idea to draw a picture to help you. If you were adding 1 + 2, you could draw one circle and then two more circles. (Demonstrate this)
