Community activist Tony Flora remembered as teacher, fighter, friend

Anthony “Tony” Flora, longtime organized labor advocate and community activist, died Friday of complications from a stem cell transplant related to his 14-month battle with non-Hodgkins T-cell lymphoma. He was 70. Flora, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in the Long Island suburb of Massapequa, settled in South Bend because it was the hometown of his wife, Kristina Ann Lackman, who died in 2011.
