This photograph shows one of the biggest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. (Photo : ESO/PHANGS) This photograph shows one of the biggest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, the spiral galaxy NGC 4303, often referred to as Messier 61.
Just to be clear, this spiral galaxy is not poisonous despite it resembling a snake. Thanks to the Chile-based Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), astronomers are able to image the NGC 1087, which resembles a curled sleeping snake.
Check out this striking image of NGC 1087 recently captured by Chile's ALMA observatory.
A study the James Webb Space Telescope will conduct in its first year will survey stars, star clusters and dust in 19 galaxies neighboring the Milky Way.
