Working in the media can sometimes be a tough gig. We have a front-row seat to everything that happens in the community, much of it is positive but plenty can be a little hard to stomach. Luckily, being involved in this year s Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal has well and truly restored my faith in humanity. Our appeal, which officially wraps up tomorrow, aimed to help the Salvation Army Foodbank give out 200 food parcels to families in need this Christmas.

Week One: November 7-15 The first week of the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal saw local medical centres put their hands up to back the cause. Advertisement Ranolf Medical Centre opted to Fill the Caravan as a show of support. The caravan in question was loaned to the medical centre by the Salvation Army during lockdown, giving them a place to safely administer flu shots.

The appeal aims to help the Salvation Army Foodbank give more than 200 food parcels to families in need this Christmas as well as ensure the shelves are well stocked for next year. Salvation Army corps officer Kylie Overbye said there was some concern earlier in the year. With Covid-19 and the resulting lockdowns leaving more people in need of a helping hand than ever, the foodbank was going to need all the help it could get.
