Nothing Can Stop PIB Passage, Lawmakers Insist

Members of the Senate and House of Representatives have said they are working round the clock to ensure the eventual passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) this year, assuring Nigerians that nothing can stop the passage of the legislation.
The two chambers of the National Assembly also expressed their support for the deregulation of the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, particularly the pricing of petrol.
Members of the National Assembly Joint Committees on PIB led by their Chairmen, Senator Sabo Mohammed (Senate) and Hon Mohammed Monguno (House of Representatives), respectively, who toured the Dangote Refinery, yesterday in Lagos, equally pledged the support of the legislature to the Dangote Group to ensure the successful completion of the refinery. ....

HOSTCOM apologises to Buhari, NASS over fracas at NASS C'ttee Hearing

The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas HOSTCOM have apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly over Thursday’s fracas at a House of Representatives Committee Hearing where some representatives of the communities engaged in fisticuffs.
HOSTCOM also accused the Mike Emuh-led Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas HOSTCON for misrepresenting the communities, and therefore, demanded an investigation to unmask and sanction sponsors of the group.
At a news conference Sunday in Abuja, HOSTCOM president, High Chief Benjamin Style Tamaranebi also declared that an offer of 10 percent equity shares to the host communities in the Petroleum Industry Bill PIB would bring peace to troubled oil and gas producing communities. ....

PIB hearing: Rowdy session as factional chairmen of host communities fight

Factional leaders of oil-producing communities otherwise called host communities on Thursday physically assaulted each other during the public hearing on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) held at the instance of the House of Representatives.
Crisis started after the chairman, Ad-hoc Committee on PIB, Hon Mohammed Monguno ruled that each of the host communities would be allowed to make separate presentations individually, a decision which some of the stakeholders kicked against as they shouted: “no, no, no.”
Few minutes after dousing the tension, one of the traditional rulers in his 60s who wanted to make a presentation on behalf of a faction of the host communities was physically attacked by another factional chairman in his mid-40s. ....
