A Cape Cod-based company deployed one of its unmanned machines to scan the seafloor early Thursday morning as the search for the missing submersible on an expedition to view the wreckage of the Titanic passed the critical 96-hour mark when breathable air could have run out. A Pelagic Research Services team aboard the Horizon Artic rescue ship deployed its Odysseus 6K, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that can reach depths of up to 19,000 feet, as efforts to locate five missing people in the Titan, a 21-foot submersible owned by OceanGate Expeditions, pressed on. In a statement, the company said, “The Horizon Arctic deployed it primary asset, the Pelagic Research Services Odysseus 6K, early Thursday morning and has been scanning the seafloor in the rescue area continuously.”
