The National Green Tribunal has directed state pollution control boards to ensure the release of minimum water downstream by hydroelectric projects, saying business or commercial interests cannot override the requirement of maintaining riverine ecology. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said every hydroelectric project (HEP) irrespective of the date of its commission is under an obligation to release minimum water downstream This is a mandate of Sustainable Development which is part of the right to life. Accordingly, the tribunal directed compliance by all the Hydro-Electric Projects (HEPs), including in States of Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal (North Region), Assam and Jammu & Kashmir, the bench said. ....
Synopsis While assuring to look into the grievances of the project affected people of the two Hydro-Electric Projects, he said that there is shortage of power in the State despite having so much of potential. ANI Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein said that there is need to welcome the potential private power developers to harness the vast hydropower potential of the State as it will help to enhance economy of the State and generate employment opportunity for the local youths. These Hydro-power projects, once developed will make our State self-sufficiency in power as the Power Developers will share free power of 5-10% with the State Government and 1% for local area development. More power will further create avenues for establishment of industry and food processing units for the local entrepreneurs. ....

Chief Secretary B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, Financial Commissioner (Finance) Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner (Health) Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor Nitishwar Kumar, Administrative Secretaries of various departments besides senior officers from NHAI, BRO, Jal Shakti, PWD, PDD, Tourism, Horticulture, etc. were present in the meeting. During the meeting, the Lt Governor sought a comprehensive report of the sector-wise implementation of 54 projects sanctioned under PMDP with an outlay of Rs 58,627 crores and reviewed the Financial and Physical progress achieved so far. ....
