Reade said permits were suspended in the following zones: Coastal Rural, Coastal Urban, Waimea Rural, Nelson Rural, Nelson Urban, Golden Bay East and all Golden Bay beaches. Fire and Emergency is urging vigilance of fire danger in Canterbury and most of the upper South Island.

Earthworks have begun on the new site, which is just over two kilometres away from the current station, with the build estimated to take around seven months. Principal rural fire officer Ian Reade​ said the new site was made up of land purchased from Tasman District Council and land donated by the Ford family who own the adjacent orchard.
