Shell Company Agrees To Pay N7billion Compensation To Niger Delta Communities Affected By Oil Spills

Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has expressed its willingness to pay €15 million, equivalent to N7,109,824,809 to communities in Nigeria that were affected by multiple oil pipeline leaks in the country’s Niger Delta region. This was stated in a release on Friday by the company. The award is the result of a Dutch court case filed by Friends of the Earth, an international network of 73 environmental organisations. Shell was sued by four farmers in 2008 for oil spills in their villages: Goi, Oruma, and Ikot Ada Udo.
