The remains of a Florida woman missing since Hurricane Ian destroyed her home in September have been identified, a sheriff said Thursday.
82-year-old Ilonka Knes had been missing since Hurricane Ian destroyed her Fort Myers Beach home. Her husband's body had been found not long after the storm struck, but she remained missing for more than three months until workers clearing debris found her remains in a thicket of mangroves. She was one of two people still missing since the storm made landfall back in September.
The woman, Ilonka Knes, 82, was among the 146 people in Florida who died in the September storm, the state’s deadliest since 1935.
