MDFA: Longpa Lomuden beat MYA 1-0, MMSC enter quarters

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 14 (EMN): Longpa Lomuden FC’s Lanusunep early strike sealed a 1-0 win against Marepkong Youth Association in the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on October Friday. With two consecutive losses, Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) are out of the tournament from Pool B while Longpa Lomuden FC and Mongsenbai FC will face off on October 17 to contest for the pool B winner and runner-up slots. MYA pushed all their strength into attacking mode during the whole match but lacked the finishing touch, which foiled their efforts for the much-needed win. Lanusunep’s early strike in the 5th minute of the game was enough to seal the fate of MYA. One of the top contenders of the trophy, Moanungsang Memorial Sports Club (MMSC), also entered the quarter finals as the Pool C winners after they beat OCYU via a solitary goal in the second match. MDFA: Defending champions Telongjem FC stun Sparious FC 10 - 0

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 13 (EMN): Defending champions Telongjem FC stunned Sparious FC 10-0 at the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Thursday. In a magnificent display Telongjem striker Yhunshalo Kemp started his campaign with a double hat-trick while Moasunep scored a brace. Suponglemba and Temjenwapang Kichu grabbed one goal each for Telongjem.    Early strikes from Moasunep in the 3rd minute of the game followed by Suponglemba in the 15th minutes and Yhunshalo Kemp’s goal haul saw Telongem taking a commanding 6-0 lead in the first half. Sparious FC were no way near the level  of Telongjem game-play and fell into total disarray as playmaker Kakhevi Assumi destroyed the defence line making precision assists to his team mates.    Having scored four goals, Kemp etched his name again on the scoresheet ten minutes into the second half. Replacement Temjenwapang Kichu also wasted no time making his mark, heading home with his first touch in the 54th minute. MDFA trophy 2022 underway - Eastern Mirror

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 12 (EMN): The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2022 was kicked off by Aotula T Imchen, SP Mokokchung, at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 11. Imchen in her speech, lauded the MDFA for successfully hosting the tournament for the service of the public and also successfully hosting the Dr.T Ao Trophy. She also said the tournament was a great platform to promote and motivate grassroots level participation while improving the level of the players to strive towards playing in state, national and international levels.  “We all know football is not just a beautiful game but it is also an emotion for many people. And it should be the collective desire of all that there is unity through sports,” she said, adding that sports is the medium to develop relationships and friendships which allows people to strive and compete hard with the spirit of sportsmanship. Independence Day celebrated across Nagaland

Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): The 76th Independence Day was celebrated in all district headquarters and sub-divisions throughout the state with ministers, parliamentary secretaries and administrative heads hoisting the national flag. Schools and institutions, defence and para-military forces, NGOs and others also took part in the celebration by organising events, paying visits to hospitals and jails and distributing items. Dimapur: The advisor of Power department, H Tovihoto Ayemi, who hoisted the tri colour during the 76th Independence Day celebration at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur said that the state the government of Nagaland is taking up three hydro projects namely- Lower Tizu Hydro Electricity Projects (42 MW), Zungki Hydro Electricity Project (24MW), and Tizu Valley (24 MW) as a part of Externally Aided Projects through the Asian Development Bank. Maintaining that the issue connected with the 186 MW hydro electricity projects at Dikhu is also getting resolved and a couple of others in progress, he said the state will be self-sufficient in electricity power supply once these projects are completed. Sungkomen lift first Mokokchung Inter-ward Volleyball championship

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Aug.  15 (EMN): Sungkomen defeated Artang in straight sets to lift the first Mokokchung Inter-ward Volleyball championship on Monday. With a jammed packed crowd at the Multi Sports Complex in Mokokchung, both teams performed their best, however, Sungkomen clinical execution proved to be too strong for the Artang in the final match. Sungkomen’s defense proved to be a deterrent for Artang’s spiking power as the opponent team comfortably blocked most of the attacks and counterattacked with accuracy and technical finishing. Artang had some tough times as Sungkomen players delivered at least five aces in the second set and two in the final set.   Artang also got its opportunity to claim the third set in the starting and turn the table in its favour. However, Sungkomen proved too hard to counter. The match ended in favour  of Sungkomen 25-19; 25-17; 25-17.
