A positive plan to help our community recover and rebuild has been announced, headlined by a record spend on infrastructure projects and a funding boost for more service delivery.
A record infrastructure program investment of $482 million takes the spotlight as part of Hume City Council’s 2021-22 Draft Council Budget, adopted on Monday 26 April 2021.
Mayor of Hume City Council, Joseph Haweil said the budget is a positive plan for the future that responds to the needs of Hume’s residents and community groups entering a COVID-normal world.
The budget includes significant investment in major projects and community services with the roll-out of more than 500 new capital works projects over the next four years. ....

RACGP urges patients to turn to their GP for vaccine advice

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is calling for patients to switch off social media and turn to their GP for vaccine information.
The call comes in World Immunisation Week, and at a time when GPs across Australia are working hard on the twin rollouts of COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. General practice and primary care have now passed the 1 million milestone for COVID-19 vaccinations.
It is a timely reminder of the importance of vaccinations, as GPs have been dealing with rising vaccine hesitancy regarding COVID-19 vaccines. An ANU study found a significant increase in uncertainty about COVID-19 vaccines among Australian adults – from 5% unwilling to be vaccinated and 7 % hesitant in August 2020, to 8% unwilling and 13% hesitant in January 2021. ....

Colombia on Tuesday gave the green light for the private sector to buy and distribute coronavirus vaccines under certain conditions, in a bid to expand the country s slow-moving immunisation campaign.
President Iván Duque said in his daily television address that after several studies, the Health Ministry had drafted a resolution that enables the purchase [of vaccines] and the contribution of the private sector to the national vaccination plan.  
Any party buying vaccines must be endorsed by the Health Ministry and guarantee delivery using their own logistics chains so as not to be a burden on the public sector. They must also abide by guidelines to ensure the most vulnerable sectors of the community are the first to receive the shots. ....

The number of fresh Covid-19 cases in the country was slightly lower at 2,59,170 at 8 am on Tuesday, as compared to the previous day’s record high infections.
Yesterday, the total number of fresh Covid cases reported from across the country was at 2,73,810, according to official data from the Health Ministry.
The total number of cases in India now stands at 1,53,21,089, of which total recoveries are at 1,31,08,582, the number of active cases is at 20,31,977, and the death toll has increased to 1,80,350, with 1,761 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. ....
