Data that suggests that even with reduced immunogenicity, there s still good protection in the 2- to 5-year-old group. if that s the case, then, yeah, enthusiastically i ll endorse this vaccine and jeremy faust will as well. the problem is we ve told the public we will not release a vaccine that isn t safe and effective, and the fda needs to evaluate data to show this is not just safe but effective. only about 25% of parents have vaccinated their children between the ages of 5 and 11. there is enormous amount of vaccine hesitancy. so if we re going to reach out to them and convince them to do whey want them to do, which is to give their kids shots. we need to make sure that the vaccine is effective. i m hopeful that pfizer has unreleased data that will point us in that direction. but the promise we re going to ....

The first two doses three weeks apart, followed by a pause of eight weeks, and then the third dose. but they only have collected data for immunogenicity, the ability to produce an immune response and safety for the first two doses. so the idea would be, it sounds like the emergency authorisation would be granted, potentially, based on information from two doses, with the understanding and the hope it will be the third dose that does the trick and really boosts a large immune response. my colleagues and i really haven t seen that before, so trying to understand the dynamics of it and hopefully more information will be forthcoming. just tackling the issue of vaccine hesitancy, clearly an issue in the us. if i look at what s happening in the uk, the message is children between five and 12 years old could have the vaccine, if they re deemed to be vulnerable, essentially. but this seems like a readiness to say, across the board, under fives, fair enough? ....

Adequate immunogenicity, meaning a dose of vaccine did not provide the immune response it did for older kids. it did for the littler kids but not the 2 to 4-year-old group. maybe they have data suggesting that even the reduced immunogenicity protects against infection, we don t know. but that s what could prompt pfizer to make that a three-dose vaccine. so it s intriguing and a little unclear why they re doing this now. and it s that uncertainty that has fueled some of the vaccine hesitancy for parents. even for kids who are already eligible. right now only 22% of children ages 5 to 11 are fully vaccinated. i wonder what percentage of kids do we need onboard to really make a significant impact here in the overall fight? we want everybody onboard. ....
