hurricane center joins me live. thank you so much. i know you're incredibly busy. first, what's the latest in the tra jkt ri of this storm? >> idalia's center is moving into southern georgia just to the east of the area. we're seeing a flash flood emergency in that location right now that means there's life threatening flood ing. they have had over 6 inches of rain to the west of the center. those heavy rainfall amounts are going to continue spreading eastward through the carolinas as we go through the next day or so. we're seeing hurricane force winds extending inland into georgia. expect that to continue into areas like savannah. so substantial wind, rainfall flooding and a storm surge threat is going to develop tonight in coastal sections of georgia and south carolina. >> and what should georgia and the carolinas expect as this afternoon comes? >> the rainfall is only going to expand northward. we're concerned in this red with the considerable impacts from

flash and urban flooding and places like columbia, south carolina. we have the peeshl of storm surge aboveground level in savannah and charleston. that's going to develop into the high tide cycle later this evening and into tonight. there could be coastal flooding. if anybody has been asked to evacuate, we edge encourage them to do so. there's the potential for hurricane-force winds inland in georgia and then with tropical storm warnings for much of south carolina and coastal north carolina. >> you maybe start eed to answe my next question, which is you have people who are looking around and saying the storm seems to have slow ed. the wind isn't so bad. the water isn't so bad. there's not a lot of rain.
