Nbc chief global correspondent bill neely has the latest from cairo. if that was a missile, that infrared satellite would have been able to track it going from the surface of the ground to the air but that wasn t the case. so what else could have caused that heat flash? reporter: yeah, this is potentially really significant. so here you have the plane flying at 31,000 feet packed with people. above it is a u.s. satellite which at exactly the time of the disaster detects a heat flash, a brief intense explosion. now, that does narrow the range of possible causes of the crash. here they are. what it could be is an engine fire or a fuel tank explosion. that could possibly have caused this intense heat flash. it could be a bomb on the plane. here s what it s not. it s not the plane hitting the ground because it was detected at altitude, at 31,000 feet. ....
