Dozens and dozens of my colleagues, i ve been teaching for 41 years now, and i ve never seen anything like this before. most of my colleagues, i think agree with these basic principles of free speech. this is just free speech 101. nothing i wrote with my great younger colleague, keegan callahan, in t science department. nothing here is brain surgery. we were horrified with what happened at middlebury last thursday and the shutting down of this speech by dr. murray. we got together this week and said why don t we hammer out what are the basic principles of afree speech? more or less for ourselves and let s circulate it among the faculty and see if there s some agreementfa here. it took us only an hour to sit down and say in 1776, america fought the battle of free speech. these are enlightenment values. i m kind of a free-speech fundamentalist, and i believe ....
