Greenville City Council met virtually on May 24 where members brought up discussions centered around the public comments, new agendas and decisions on a future council meeting, which will be held on June 7, to further discuss the possibility of the return of in-person meetings. We’re facing the reality that the city of Vero Beach, with an estimated 18,000 people (50% fewer than Sebastian), is the second biggest city in the county and only a fraction of its 165,395 population. While it has many of the county’s top assets — beach parks, shopping areas, hotels — it no longer controls a larger area by serving it with electricity. That means folks adjacent to the city no longer prop up Vero Beach’s general fund, which pays to maintain so many of the city’s parks.

Bipartisan legislation introduced Monday by the Forsyth County House delegation would provide $5 million to expand arts and wellness services at the Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Care Center. House Bill 593 would provide Senior Services Inc. with $3 million from the 2021-22 state budget and an additional $2 million from the 2022-23 budget.
