Livestock, horticultural markets renovated in merged districts

PESHAWAR: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under its USAID-funded project is promoting five value chains by establishing improved market structures and strengthened services in the merged districts.
A press release said the project “Restoring Subsistence and Commercial Agriculture in Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” is focusing on Khyber, North, and South Waziristan districts of KP. It said the project had witnessed an increase in production and income.
In South Waziristan, the sales value of growers increased by 95 per cent for tomato, 68 per cent for potato, and 13 per cent for apple. ....

WASHINGTON- Today, President Biden unveiled a revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), committing the United States to a 50-52% reduction below 2005 levels by 2030. Earlier this month, environmental, environmental justice, and international development groups released the “Fair Shares Nationally Determined Contribution” (“Fair Shares NDC”) for the U.S., laying out the measures the United States should commit to carrying out to do its “fair share” of the global effort to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, based on its status as the world’s wealthiest country and largest historical carbon polluter. ....

WASHINGTON – President Joseph Biden is expected to take the United States back into the Paris Agreement on Day One of his presidency. Friends of Earth International, U.S., and Malaysia, as well as Third World Network, released the following statements in response:
Karen Orenstein, Climate and Energy Program Director at Friends of the Earth U.S., said:
“Rejoining the Paris Agreement was the easy part. The Biden Administration must now put together a carbon reduction plan premised on the United States doing its
fair share of the global effort to keep temperature rise to 1.5°C and provide climate finance for developing countries in line with what science, equity, and justice demand. President Biden must approach the climate crisis internationally with the same promise of environmental justice pledged at home.” ....

WASHINGTON December 12 marks the five-year anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement, in which 197 countries agreed to limit global temperature rise to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with an aim of 1.5°C. However, the national pledges which form the backbone of the Paris Agreement are insufficient to keep global heating within these temperature thresholds, and they do not take into account nations’ equitable share of responsibility. Developed countries have fallen far short in both reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and providing developing countries with the agreed financing and technical assistance for mitigation, adaptation, and to attend to loss and damage. ....
