MSNBC The January 6th Hearings The House Investigates June 4, 2024 20:11:00

Presentation as it was, it was a very one-sided presentation, without any of the defenses presented that will be available to donald trump, including, he will no doubt argue that he was relying on the advice of lawyers who may have been completely wrong in the things that they were telling him, and some of them may even be charged with crimes but that is what he is going to say, even though bill barr was telling him there was no fraud, john eastman and jeffery clark were telling him there was fraud and the d.o.j. has to overcome that. and to make a charge of insurrection stick, they re going to have to prove that donald trump intended for violence to happen at the capitol, not that he was negligent and failed to stop it but he intended for violence to happen. and so it is a tough steep hill for the justice department to climb. and carol leonig, i want to bring you in but let me first make a quick legal point with chuck rosenberg. one of the things about the transcripts that will not ....

you, know this is one of those interesting situations where the crime literally played out before our very eyes. and so while we do have a judicial system that requires that these crime must be proven in a court of law as a witness to the event, as someone who was on the house floor along with barbara lee because we are both members of house leadership and we are watching this all go down in realtime i can tell you that these crimes actually took place. i think that the january 6th committee has been enormously effective in a bipartisan way about interviewing, as you mentioned, thousands of witnesses and revealing for the american people everything that wind down, to the point where even the justice department i think is taking some cues and is using information uncovered by the january 6th committee, which is not something that you would typically see. you would typically see the reverse, that the justice department would have certain information that we would sort of lean on as mem ....

Covid-19 vaccine. what s your reaction to that? i don t have a clue, kate, what he s asking for. ref a weeks that unequivocally is highly effective, safe and has saved literally millions of lives. the commonwealth fund has come out with a report this past week, that vaccinations have saved 3.2 million lives, 18 million hospitalizations, and approximately $1 trillion in costs. so what s the problem with vaccines? i mean, vaccines are life saving. quite frankly, kate, i m not sure what they re trying to do down there. it gets to a bigger issue i ve been wanting to ask you, if one of your final interviewing ....

Survivors like the one you played that should be leading it. i am struck by the generational piece of this, right. i remember being in parkland a year after that shooting and interviewing students there. they were very casual about the fact that since they were in pre-k, since in kindergarten they had been practicing active shooter drills. i m not that much older than them and 20 years ago that wasn t a part of our educational reality in the united states. it is unsurprising to me the amount of this work that has been led by that generation and unsurprising that first gen-z member of congress, maxwell frost, comes to the work through that movement. and remember, they were overly optimistic about what effect they would have. they thought this is a rubicon that s been crossed. we will get sensible gun measures passed, and there have been a lot of improvements over the last 10 and 20 years as we ve talked about, even discussing it in terms of gun ....

And, again, this is a perfect example why anybody should never talk and make statements when they re potentially implicated in any criminal enterprise. a lot of interviewing he s given, and now it looks like there s, they re moving ahead with charges clearly shows federal prosecutors believe not only they have evidence, that they it prove beyond a reasonable doubt he intentionally engaged in defrauding schemes and other criminal conduct. to the ebs txtent just bad busi management and wouldn t have to face any sort of criminal allegations obviously was very short-sighted and clearly it can be regulated, certainly. seem to indicate more charges are coming. seems like, if you read the filing. are you surprised he s the only person charged, and what does the timeline look like from him coming from the bahamas, where he was arrested last night, back to the united states? does it happen immediately, take weeks? moving relatively quickly. ....
