Wicklow County Council has launched a joint-road safety campaign with Kildare County Council urging motorists to watch out for vulnerable road users over the May bank holiday.
In the first ten hours of the operation, 290 vehicles were found to be travelling in excess of the speed limit.
There were 140 drivers arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
