The title for this yearâs Notre Dame Student Film Festival says it all: âQuarantined.â Indeed, the coronavirus pandemic plays a starring role in the 32nd annual festival, as subject matter, as subtext in some films, and in technical and practical ways. A staple of January, the festival instead moved to this weekend and almost didnât happen at all this academic year, if only because it wasnât always clear if thereâd be enough films finished to hold a festival. Several filmmakers, for instance, either tested positive for COVID-19 or had to quarantine for up to two weeks after exposure to the virus, which imperiled their ability to finish their films.
