Businesses closed down, clearly everyone had or most everyone appears to have left this area. the mayor says that they are ready for the storm. we spoke with the police chief down in a little island called marco island south of where we are which will be one of the first areas that feels the intense impacts of this hurricane. after the hurricane passes through key west, the police chief says they are worried but they are prepared and have done whatever they can to get their force ready to deal with whatever might come. a great deal of anxiety in the overnight hours as this region prepares for the arrival of this storm. isa? and as we heard from the governor of florida he was saying there is more than 365 shelters along that route. how now you said some of the shelters were already in place. ....
Welcome back, everyone. you re watching cnn s continuing coverage of hurricane irma. i m michael holmes in orlando. and i m isa soares in miami, where it is 4:30 in the morning. in the next 24 to 48 hours, it will be unlike anything south florida has experienced in many, many years. hurricane irma now a category 4 storm, briefly a category 3. the eye of the storm about midway between cuba and the florida keys. but it is so large that the outer bhan outer bands are already battering miami with gail force winds and heavy rain. the flooding that follows could be kriptolocrippling to many ar. some 6.5 million people have been told to evacuate. almost 300,000 customers are without power. and that is a figure likely to ....
