Mortality figures at several Chilean salmon farms are climbing due to a harmful algal bloom event that has recently affected operations in southern Chile.
At least 2,800 metric tons (MT) of Atlantic and coho salmon have died as a result of the algae bloom, which was first reported on 2 January.
An ongoing algal bloom in Chile's Aysen Region has resulted in over 2,800 MT of salmon dying, and Salmones Camanchaca has reported a small salmon escape.
