KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Whether it was in the huddle during the early days of the NFL or behind the microphone as the league grew into the behemoth it is today, Len Dawson carried himself with an unmistakable swagger and self-assurance that earned him the well-worn nickname “Lenny the Cool.”
Len Dawson was the MVP of the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the Vikings in January 1970.
“Len Dawson is synonymous with the Kansas City Chiefs,” owner Clark Hunt said in a statement on Wednesday. “Len embraced and came to embody Kansas City and the people that call it home.”
Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson led the Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl title in 1970 and later served as a sports broadcaster.
"He loved Kansas City," his family said, "and no matter where his travels took him, he could not wait to return home."
