Inflation: Nigerians groan as food prices skyrocket


 
Traders in Abuja told
Daily Trust that there has been a price increase in food commodities since the last three months even though the price of rice has been stable to no increase since the last five months.
A provisions seller, Ahmadu Tijjani, told our correspondent that they were not given reasons for the hike in the price of some of the goods, stating that since food commodities are essential people would still buy even if they have to reduce their purchasing capacity.
According to Tijjani, there is a 20 per cent increase of a good formerly sold for N1, 000 while a 50cl pack of Coca Cola has increased to N1700 from N1600, adding that a local measure of beans that previously sold for N500, N450 is now selling for N800, N650. ....

56,158 Nigerians displaced in three months


The IOM is an agency of the United Nations. The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), according to the agency, gathers and analyses data to disseminate critical multi-layered information on the mobility, vulnerabilities, and needs of displaced and mobile populations that enable decision-makers and responders to provide these populations with better context-specific assistance.
The figure compiled is aside other scores of unreported cases of displacement as IOM uses direct observation and a broad network of key informants to gather representative data and collect information on the number, profile and immediate needs of affected populations.
A significant number of those affected were displaced out of fear of future attacks in their communities. Most of the displaced people relocated to uncompleted structures in public schools, uncompleted or/and abandoned houses while others sought shelter with relatives and friends. ....

Pain, fear as bandits kill 212 within 2 months in Kaduna


Daily Trust reports that between January and February, at least 212 people had been killed with at least 65 injured in 10 local government areas of Kaduna State. With Igabi, Chikun, Giwa, Birnin Gwari and Kajuru suffering the most attacks in the last two months, attacks were equally launched on communities within Kauru, Zangon Kataf, Kachia, Zaria and Lere local government areas.
Hundreds of persons from affected communities are taking refuge in nearby villages they consider safer than theirs,

In the afternoon of February 27, 2021, seven people were killed when about 50 bandits, moving on motorcycles, invaded Anaba village in Kerawa ward of Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State. Twenty-year-old Basira Nuhu, a mother of one who was in a neighbouring village at the time of the attack, said she was immediately apprehensive when news went round that her village, Anaba, was under attack. ....
